2025 Update: 4 Things to Know About EV Charging

The state of the EV charging industry is ever evolving. Here are four points to be aware of:

  1. Federal Tax Credits: The expanded federal tax credits for electric vehicles now include incentives for the installation of EV charging stations, covering both personal and commercial installations. This aims to encourage the adoption of EVs and enhance charging infrastructure across the country.
  2. Metering Requirements: Starting July 1, 2025, all new public EV charging stations must install meters capable of measuring the electricity delivered. Public legacy charging stations will also need to comply with this requirement by July 1, 2028. This regulation aims to ensure transparency in billing for EV charging services.
  3. Arizona’s Charging Network: Arizona is set to launch its first round of electric vehicle charging stations by the end of 2025, with 21 locations planned along interstate highways. These stations will be privately owned and operated, with federal funding covering a significant portion of the construction costs.
  4. New Industry Standards: The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is updating minimum standards for federally-funded EV chargers to accommodate new technologies. This includes adopting the Tesla-developed North America Charging Standard (NACS) connector, which many automakers are expected to use starting in 2025.
